TheLychee aims to bring together Asian singles in New York City in to socialize, network, and most importantly, have fun. Our events include open singles parties and group singles activities, as well as speed dating events. Group activities range from trapeze classes to rock climbing to salsa dancing. Our events are always hosted at friendly, classy venues catered specifically to the group's preferences. The goal, always, is to have fun meeting people in a friendly environment.

Why

In today's fast-paced technological world and fashionably hip generation, sometimes something as basic as meeting people can be a difficult task. A formerly unfamiliar dating strategy, speed dating events are now quite commonplace. The difference between TheLychee and other speed dating companies is that we are a company run by Asians for Asians.

Who

TheLychee was originally started by Shiuan Butler, an Asian American transplant to New York from Boston via Hawai'i. Shiuan (rhymes with yuan), at first, had an extremely difficult time meeting new people in NYC. Everyone seemed to be completely absorbed in their own lives. As a single woman in her twenties, she was looking for girlfriends to go out with, but found many either had boyfriends or were already content with their own circles of friends. Combined with the usual hectic New York lifestyle, Shiuan was having a hard time meeting anyone but creepy, lonely guys at clubs or even just on the street! Eventually after a couple of years in the city, Shiuan started forming her own circle of friends and girlfriends to go out with. However, she still felt that the many pockets of Asian Americans she saw around New York City were disappointingly isolated and disconnected. After coming from Boston where there was a fairly large, closely-knit community of Asian Americans and Hawai'i where there is a majority of Asians and Pacific Islanders and Hawaiian culture everywhere, she wanted to find a way to bring the different Asian American communities in New York City together. Thus--TheLychee.
